why i hate richard stallman and the gnu
Posted by Bizzeh | Filed under Hate and Flame, Software
if the gnu, as it claims, is all about free software. and claims that software should not have owners as in this
article here http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/why-free.html .. then why does the gnu have copyrights and trademarks on its software, logos and names? the gnu OWNS its software and tools. the gnu claims to be about freedom and “writing free software” yet the gnu get ibm, amd, intel and arm, the 4 largest processor manufacturers on this planet, to “donate” hardware and money and resources to the gnu in return for the gnu supporting their archutecture? this isnt a donation, this is a payment… richard stallman is a lyer and a thief.. he did not create the gnu, he sized it from a friend using money he earned writing propriatory software at MIT. he also goes around preaching freedom. but is anti-microsoft, anti-tpm, anti-drm… and telling people that they should think like him… someone else in history did something similar… adolf hitler… he went around telling people that they should think what he thinks and do what he does…
the gnu is a lie, and stallman is a theif.
please reflect upon your selfs and consider the truth of what you are supporting

I AGREE. I have watched him during his talks, and he does NOT listen or want to listen to what people have to say.
He’s ignorant of the reality that most users don’t want to modify or redistribute the software they use. They just want to use it by themselves. So who is he fighting for? Himself.
This whole free software movement is a joke. GNU and linus torvald are all “sponsored” by the hardware manufacturers to produce free software to run on their proprietary, commercial hardware. Then they have the nerve to tell other programmers to make free software for the hardware manufacturers to use.
Erm, why should I give away my software? I can’t make money from it if other people are entitled under GPL to give it away for nothing. How can I compete with other people selling it at $0?
We can’t all receive substancial donations from megacorps like you, richard stallman and torvald linus!

Please do not put both Stallman and Torvalds in the same ring. Yes, Stallman is a self-absorbed douche, but Linus, well thats different. Linus prefers open source software because he thinks its a better a development method, but will use the best tool for the job. Also, open source software (and free software…uggh) don’t have to be free (monetary wise), they just have to allow the user (or consumer, in this case) to see the source code. And yes, people can just compile the source code and redistribute it freely, but the only people who know how to do that are ALSO the people who know how to get proprietary software illegally, meaning overall it shouldn’t make much of a difference.

I do not agree.
So what if he gets paid or not? He inspired a lot of people to write free software, and, guess what? It worked.
I have a fully working operating system with tons of programs and games and I didn’t have to pirate/buy a single one of them. I did not give a single dollar so far. Excuse me, but if that is not free, then what is?
I agree from the programmer’s perspective that you won’t make money by making free software. But that’s your choice, nobody forces you to make your software free.
Think.

agree about stallman, but not about linus torlvalds.
He has never said anything like all software should be free.
actually he always rejects being part of the ‘free software movement’
instead he claims he is part of the open source movement.
whats the difference?
well, the idea of the open source movement means only that; open the source so people can read it (yeah, I’m aware its only a few persons, the programmers who care about code, but that persons, the programmers, are the ones who create the software that users use, you know, the users, people who don’t want to read source, modify, share or whatever, so if programmers can read the source, the users in the end get better software, look the apache web server, firefox, etc they pretty good)
Open source movement don’t force the gpl (and don’t even try to) or any ‘copyleft’ licenses and has nothing against a person owning a piece of software.
you write it, then its yours, you want to open it? cool
want to make it free? cool
want to keep it close? again, cool but in some cases its easier to develop extension, upgrades whatever if its open,
(in a small little program, or even a medium size program, that has little relevance, but when developing systems large and complex involving databases, etc, being open source (not necessarily free) makes a huge difference
nobody forces you here.
thats the position of the open source movement, contrary to the fascist free software movement.

here is a post in linus blog:
http://torvalds-family.blogspot.com/2008/11/black-and-white.html
as you can read there, he also dislikes the extreme positions of stallman and stallman’s free software foundation

"Free Software" is not free software. This is a lie.
