The internet is not the problem

There are several things that the internet is being blamed for at the moment; self harm, child molestation, violence, terrorism.

It seems to be that for all these things, that have happened for the last 10, 100, even 1000 years people are so quick to blame video games or the internet, and to a lesser extent; movies and music.

What happened to mental instability? What happened to schizophrenia? What happened to old fassioned “crazy”? Why cant people be these things anymore? Is it because these things have been dealt with, or is it because there are scape goats to blame it on now, so that these people can exact their own personal hangups on everyone, because they blame the thing they dislike for causing the worlds problems.

These people are not actually the problem, the problem is, that people believe what they are saying to be true. If it just so happens a murderer played violent video games, that doesnt mean the video game gave him the idea. If a kid shoots another kid, and happened to watch violent movies, that doesnt mean the movies caused him to do it. If a peson commits suiside, and is then found to listen to goth/emo music, it doesnt mean that the music caused them to do it. It just happens that the people who are telling you about this, only tell you about the cases where the “evidence” fits what they want to tell you, otherwise, they are never reported to the public.

Just after the release of GTA 4 for the XBox 360, a kid threw a molotov cocktail at a taxi driver in the USA, and instantly blamed it on GTA. He got away with it, and Rockstar (the developers) where repremanded, and there was an outcry to have GTA pulled from the shelves. The kid didnt do it because of GTA, he did it because i knew he could blame it on GTA and get away with it.

Anyone who claims to be influenced so much by TV, Movies, Music or Video Games must have an underlaying mental problem in the first place, as I play violent games, watch violent tv, and listen to offencive music, and i dont go around killing people.

Stop using your personal hates as scapegoals for the problems of the world. Go out and actually DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS and stop passing the blame.

I use the German “bread analogy” after the school shootings in German schools gamers on the net started saying something along the lines of:

“Ban Bread!, 99% of the shooters ate bread before they committed their crimes. Bread is evil.”

Great points. What is most irritating to me is when very bad behavior on the part of adults is passed off on “society” or parents. Once you have reached a certain age, you behave like an asshole, well, because you are one, not because you were “spanked” as a little tyke. Sometimes I think people go off-kilter because they WEREN’T spanked.

Just the other day this young girl with kids was yelling at a woman in a restaurant. Apparently, her unruly kids offended the woman and she made a comment to her husband about how in her day children would not be allowed to throw food across the room and run about disturbing diners without getting in trouble. The young mother overheard her and made this huge scene. I mean, the “train wreck” showed the entire restaurant WHY her kids were such unruly brats. She sets the example daily. She really ticked me off, talking to an older woman (who chose to ignore her tirade) that way.

Do people have no standards of behavior anymore?

Sometimes people are just..assholes, crazy, psychotic, etc.. The more people I know, the less I like people. It is really getting bad, to a point where I am becoming seriously antisocial. I just feel that over the last 15-20 years, human beings have taken a huge step downward. Perhaps it isn’t me who changed, but the environment which I live in?

    Nice blog by the way.
